We had a PDP government in Nigeria for sixteen years, there was hardly any improvement in the lives of the masses. We are having an APC government for the third year, the material and mental poverty are not abating.
Something is telling me it’s not the political parties or the governments that are faulty. Rather, we need to check our individual and corporate mindsets.
Have we left undone those things which we ought to have done? Have we not done those things which we ought not to have done? Is there any sincerity within us?
Ok, let’s start from the basics!
Do we not expect contestants to political offices to empower us, one way or the other? Pray, where do we expect them to get these humongous sums of money?
Of course, they’ll go shopping for political godfathers. And those ones are very wise. Once they get a candidate, they’ll make sure he is elected, either by wuruwuru or otherwise.
Now the feasting starts. The godfathers are actually the ones in power, in that they dictate who to appoint to cabinet positions. They also dictate who to appoint to board positions.
The saddening aspect is that the people should be the employers of elected officials. But then, they would have sold their birthright for a meagre sum of five hundred naira, that’s if they even get that much. Some get flip flops and other less attractive things.
That’s why instead of the people acting as employers to government if has remained the other way round. And, it is not a curse, it’s not likely to change if we don’t change our mindsets.
So, till then, Nigeria is for the highest bidder!!!
