For His Mercies! – Adewale Sobowale

Oh yes, if we spend all day praising God for His many mercies, I believe He is more than worthy of our praises.

If we consider our situations as individuals trying to make ends meet, where possible, we can’t but keep on praising God for His mercies.

When we consider that earthly governments have failed, have failed woefully, to take care of our basic needs, we can’t help but thank Him.

Look at the common petroleum issue and see how our government has failed us. What’s the big deal in refining and selling petroleum products to end users?

The issue of light is another one that must befuddle a reasonable person. Does it sound sensible in this age that a supposedly great nation like ours can not generate electric power for its citizens?

Welcome to Nigeria. A country where hardly anything works.

If we consider the state of the health care system in this country, I will say there’s nothing to nothing to write home about Our hospitals have been reduced to mere dispensing centres.(Does that sentence sound familiar?) And they hardly do even that efficiently

Why would Nigerian medical practitioners not go and seek the proverbial golden fleece outside the shores of this country?

The terrible system in this country is turning professionals into economic refugees. Sex workers have long got an inkling that their trade is best practiced outside our borders.

Check out the education sector, it’s another story of failure. Is it not a rude joke that the best of our universities are now reduced to glorified secondary schools? Our system of basic education is even more horrible. That’s why one can hardly find any secondary school graduate who is deserving of the certificate.

The economy has remained in a critical condition. Can we even proudly boast that Nigeria operates a modern economy? I don’t know how we can continue borrowing, even pay salaries and expect our economy to be just OK

Like I always say, one can measure how good an economy is by critically examining whether it’s treating the poorest of the poor well. That is, any economy that fails to put food, at a reasonable cost, on the tables of the poor is a failure.

The state of roads in Nigeria is another cause for concern It can best be summed up by the Lagos – Ibadan expressway. The road has been undergoing an unending reconstruction since the Obasanjo years in power. Various governments have been allocating fantastic amounts of money for its reconstruction but to no avail. It has become a drainpipe.

Considering the state of security, I can not say we have arrived when some of the Chibok girls still remain in Boko Haram captivity. Indeed, there are still cases of kidnapping offences being committed.

One can go on and on!

That’s why it’s my fervent belief that we only survive by the grace of God in this country!
