We should greet the presidency for taking care of the opposing groups on Buhari.
A group is insistent that the president, Mr Buhari should either come back home and resume duties or he should stay in the UK or wherever. But he must resign.
The other group is saying that since he has satisfied the provisions of the constitution that he should transmit a letter to the national assembly to the effect and that his vice should act for him, they should let him be.
By the way, I believe the acting president is doing a good job.
But I believe neither of the groups is adhering to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
Section 144 of the Nigerian constitution is eminently useful here.
The section requires that a two-thirds majority of all the members of the executive council of the Federation should pass a resolution that the president is incapable of discharging the functions of his office.
The declaration should then be verified after a medical examination conducted by a medical panel.
The medical panel shall be appointed by the Senate President.
To sack a president is not an easy job. I think it is better we start praying that Mr Buhari gets better.
As far as I am concerned, both groups’ rights to peaceful protest are constitutionally protected. The police should protect them instead of teargassing them.
