Have you ever been embarrassed by a disc jockey changing the music when you walked into a pub?
Oh well, it happens here so often!
Whenever I walk into a bar just to drink water, most of the deejays knowing I’m a Nigerian would change the disc being played to a Nigerian one.
It’s quite a pity that I hardly know how to dance.
Once the music is changed, almost everybody will want to be friendly with me just because I’m a Nigerian. I think they probably believe anyone that comes from Nigeria should know the various artists.
Some of them will go into sports. They remember Yekinni, Amunike, and the rest of the team that made Nigeria proud by winning the junior World Cup five times.
They talk of the current players like Bukayo Saka, Iwobi and Ighalo.
Some of them will talk about Nigerian movies on Netflix. They’re quite familiar with the movies.
There are some who have even signified their intention to visit Nigeria. However, I don’t encourage them to do so.
Why should I?
Until we resolve our problems of insecurity, encouraging a stranger to visit is like inviting that person to be kidnapped or even killed.
Of course, Nigerian professionals are proving their mettle abroad, contributing a lot to the development of those countries.
Why did I take the trouble to post this?
It’s to show Nigeria is a country with a very great prospect. When the prospects will be fully realised depends not only on the leaders but on you and me!
