Why do some of us like making a mountain out of a molehill?
The question arises from the recent display of madness by some ethnic chauvinists who wrongly believe that the Obafemi Awolowo University must have an Ife indigene as the vice chancellor.
A university by its name is a complex institution where all and sundry come to receive knowledge to be imparted by all and sundry.
But then, the all and sundry must be qualified!
I read the reports of the process of selection which included candidates being assessed by their fellows who then proceeded to feed the results of their assessment into a computer.
But then, I forget, even if conveniently, that the institution’s motto is ‘For Learning and Culture’.
So, maybe it was to remind us of the culture part that the natives decided to introduce ogun abenugongo!
I believe someone, somewhere must be raving mad to have even thought of that!
