I hear some youths recently murdered another youth, a girl, in order to make money!
I’m far from being surprised that the Nigerian Society has gone to this basest of levels.
In a society where many are without the most basic means of sustenance not because they’re impossible to get, but because of the people’s wrong choices, these things are bound to happen.
Nigeria has enough resources – manpower, mineral, agricultural, etc – but they remain untapped.
To crown it all, people see the ruling class as gods instead of the people’s employees.
We may talk of bad parenting. But then, what influence can a parent have on their wards if they’re in a hopeless state. That is, if for instance, they can’t bring food to the table.
They may not be able to bring food to the table because those of them who are lucky to get jobs may not be sure of getting their salaries at the end of the month.
Let’s talk about the health system, is there a reliable health system in Nigeria?
Education, I know of a state in South Western Nigeria in which only a handful of public schools have laboratories.
The situation is so bad that some people justify internet fraud.
They say, since the guys are generally at home, they prevent occurrences of burglary. Some go on to say the fraudsters maintain the roads so that when they need to go out with their fancy vehicles, the bad roads won’t destroy the motor cars.
To crown it all, some say the guys are very efficient in paying electricity bills.
Some parents have no choice but to depend on their fraudulent children. I understand some even do sponsor their children to become internet fraudsters.
One thing they seem not to realize is the fact that the positive uses of the internet are much more rewarding and respectable than the negative ones.
As far as I’m concerned, the Nigerian society needs a lot of reorientation. We need to go back to the roots!
