When I think of Nigeria, I tend to think of the infamous quote of the apartheid president of South Africa, Pieter Botha ‘This uprising will bring out the beast in us.’
He was forced to utter those words in the dying days of apartheid when people in Southern Africa stepped up efforts to rid their nations of the discrimitory rule.
The Nigerian general will address the nation today!
That’s great news, isn’t it?
At least Nigerians will get to know, by emerging from his self imposed isolation, that the old man is still alive.
I wouldn’t care about the general’s address.
Why?
It will be a surprise if he says anything that will benefit the citizen Mudas of Nigeria.
A pleasant one, too!
In fact, I believe the few Nigerians who happen to be thinking like me will also be surprised if the general says anything new.
What does he have to say?
Put more hardship on Nigerians by expanding the scope of the lockdown without palliatives?
Or is he going to reannounce that his government is going to feed school children, at home, with the Abacha loot?
Most heads of state I know are giving daily briefs on COVID 19.
By the way, if we look at various countries in terms of availability of resources and performances of their respective chief executives, what’s the general’s position?
But then, what I’m forgetting is the fact that Nigeria is still under a military leadership. The general is only responsible to explain things to himself.
And himself only!
These guys have no business in the rulership of a decent nation!!
