I want to believe that success is actually a form of magic. Or could it be described as an aphrodisiac which everyone is attached to when it comes?
That France won the recently concluded World Cup soccer competition that was held in Russia is now history. They defeated the hard fighting Croatians by four goals to two.
I actually rooted for Croatia. Although Croatia lost, they were not in any way disgraced throughout the competition.
Nigeria too won. Yes, they did in the fashion parade. What with their aso ebi, uniform attire. They probably thought they had been invited to an owanbe party.
However, to my utmost surprise, many Africans have been claiming France’s victory is an African victory. They are claiming the cup has come home.
E je bara yin da sohun, home ko room ni!
Nigerians did that silly thing too to Anthony Joshua, MBE.
Apart from the fact that such declarations amount to slights to the individual players, I wonder if the Africans knew that their declarations constituted an embarrassment to the respective nations of abode of the players.
Most African nations suffered from colonisation at a certain point in their respective histories.
But colonisation is now a thing of the past, at least by foreigners. It’s now internal colonisation many African nations are suffering from. Personally, I think African leaders have failed the leadership test.
They will continue to fail the test until the mass of Africans see the light. Our rulers are there to serve us.
That’s why all development efforts, of which sports is one, are failing.
By the way, has any other African talked about reparations since the late Chief MKO Abiola of blessed memory passed on?
