The news of the brutal murder of eighty six people in Nigeria’s middle belt state of Plateau shocked me. It’s not as if the killing will be the first, but then, it set me thinking about the sort of person a killer would be.
Since I’m not a psychologist all I will do here is just talk from a layman’s point of view.
What prompts a kiĺler?
Revenge? Jihad? etc
Modern laws have made enough provisions for the two mentioned above. It’s possible to assume the laws have not given enough punishment for the offence. It is also possible to assume that law enforcement agencies will be too slow or take a negative stand on the issue at hand.
For either case, I don’t see any justification in going to execute a fellow human.
How do they feel when they are going to commit the act? I mean of murder. Since I’ve never been an accessory to the commission of murder; I may not be able to answer that question.
But I have learnt that some pray during the act. For others, it is just a ‘minus one’. What we should ask those ones is that is it to God, the creator of all, they are praying,? What will be the subject of their prayer? Some of them commit the act with no strings attached
How can a person live knowing that human blood is on their neck. I know some who can’t even slaughter a mere chicken not to talk of a living human being.
Most religions are against the slaughtering of human beings. Even the slaughter of animals must be done mercifully.
I tend to think murderers should have a special space in hell, if there’s one. They should be followed by people in authority who have deprived their constituents of the benefits of democracy – basic amenities.
