Kongi @ 90! – Adewale Sobowale

There’s no doubt about the fact that he set forth at dawn!

His lifelong activism proves it. Recounting his interventions, in most cases, at the risk of his dear life almost seems like a fairy tale.

He stuck his neck out when most of his peers were running, tail between their legs, into the bosoms of their wives.

– The Radio Station at Ibadan

– His venturing into Biafra

– His being a nemesis of dictators

– His fights against injustice

So, what is his purpose?

Justice!

He said, “For me, justice is the first condition of humanity.”

But then, justice will remain an ideal in the world.

One interesting thing is that one may only know the actual behaviour of those being mistreated until they get to some vantage position. So, the world is in a vicious circle of injustice.

Those who could stand and speak truth to power, sometimes to the detriment of their lives, deserve to be celebrated.

Professor ‘Wole Soyinka seems to be like the proverbial cat with nine lives, a veteran of many detentions, and a survivor of a death sentence passed in absentia by a military ruler of Nigeria.

Midgets may not be able to catch up with the giant strides of Soyinka

His life is an example of if we tell the truth, we’ll die; if we don’t, we’ll die, so why don’t we say the truth?

Here’s wishing Prof. happy birthday!
