Ejika! Shoulder! – Adewale Sobowale

Most of us wouldn’t have made our modest achievements if we’d not been supported by others. But then, most of those that assisted us couldn’t have been able to if they too had not been fortunate to meet helpers.

There’s something I’m not so proud about. It’s the fact that I’m not as fluent in the basics of Yoruba as I should have been. However, I think inbuilt in the Yoruba language is a good sense of imagery.

If not they wouldn’t have described ‘support’ as representing the shoulder. Truly, without shoulders, how will clothes look like on humans?

So, if God in His infinite mercies has deemed you worthy to be a shoulder of support to people who are less endowed, at least for now, make yourself a willing vessel.

This is more so in the developing countries where government support is lacking. We need to depend on ourselves for everything. Even the most basic ones.
