Beyond Glamour! – Adewale Sobowale

I know people have been going about doing the Christmas party rounds!

Yeah!!

For those who care too, this is a month in which the affluent, in their bid to give back to society, open their doors to the have-nots.

I even believe that an extra state or province should be created – that of stupor!

You know, a state of stupor might not be only drunkenness. It could also be eating, and it could even be receiving gifts!

The fact remains that December is the month in which the poor usually experience what could have been an everyday occurrence—enjoyment.

The upper class in society are already used to the trappings of being in their class. They can afford to enjoy
every day of their lives. That is why while the poor are packing their plates full of everything on the dinner table, the rich, who are already used to it, eat sparingly.

But we should find ways of spreading what I would describe as ‘the good life’ to the less fortunate. They should be able to enjoy it every day of their lives.

And when we consider it, it’s not so difficult to do!

For instance, in developing countries lacking basic amenities, providing water, light, roads, schools, and other necessities would be preferable to the Christmas glamour.

In the case of the developed world, I’ve discovered that the rich also do cry!

We could find ways to improve the lives of the poorest of the poor. In doing this, we can be satisfied that everyone has a MERRY CHRISTMAS in their homes!
