Prof Sagay is a man I respect so much. I mean for a man to be a professor and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria is certainly no joke. The man must know his onions.
Professor Itse Sagay certainly knows much more than his legal onions!
Who are we, ordinary laymen, to disagree with the oracle when he is in agreement with the government that the money due to the Ikoyi whistle blower should be given in tranches.
According to him, government is just trying to help him. The guy might run mad as a result of seeing so much money.
You know, we are talking of a very poor man. There are categories of poverty, you know. Poverty could be material, mental, etc.
But one thing occurs to me. When government was announcing the whistle blower programme, did it say anybody who gives privileged information on moneys stashed away would go through all these unnecessary processes?
But as an icon of law, he surely can defend his position.
In any case, would it not have taken a man whose mental ability is suspect to report a case of money discovery to government? Oh yes, people, smart people, are faced with so many other possibilities.
They could have organised heists. If they could be successful, then they would have the whole money less the administrative expenses.
They also could have organised the kidnap of the temporary custodians of the money. The ransom would have been the money, which those people would have given to them willingly. At least, in exchange for their dear lives.
Another option would have been to organise traditional ways of making the money disappear. I’m sure you have all heard of egbe, disappearing act.
So, for a person to have left all these rather ingenious ways in favour of reporting to government raises a lot of questions about his mental state.
I think it will be better to take the man to Yaba apa osi or better, Aro. Both of them are psychiatric hospitals of note. In fact, it will be a case of protecting the man.
Who has ever heard of anyone in those facilities being bothered by the the hustles and bustles of daily life?
He would be there enjoying life!
Don’t let anyone suggest that government is thinking twice!!!
