A couple of days ago, some activists led by Charly Boy went on a peaceful protest in Abuja. We have since learnt that men of the Nigeria Police Force dispersed the group with tear gas.

That was very generous of the peace keepers!

Public commentators have since been making various comments about the peaceful protest.

It is within the rights of every individual in a democracy to protest, provided it is peaceful.

It enriches our democracy to have various opinions. It is based on this diversity of opinions that public policy is made.

To those criticising Charly Boy and co that their reason is not fundamental enough, I am encouraging them to organise their own protests for causes which they consider as reasonable.

To the police, I believe they should have marched with the protesters in order to make their protest peaceful and to protect them. It is only when they are getting out of control that they may use force.

One person’s freedom stops where another’s begins.
