Both candidates in the US 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harria and former President Donald Trump, have said they would tighten border security if elected
Daily Mail.com reports that fearing the new marshall in town may not allow them in, a caravan of 2,000 migrants is on its way to the US from Mexico so that they would be on the safe side.
With about two weeks to the presidential elections, the asylum seekers are trying to see if hey can get into the country ahead of a potentially major shift in border policies.
A Venezuelan migrant Josman Ramos said, “Whoever wins should not close the doors to us, (they) should give us the support we need, because we are all really going through a bad time.”
However, if the Vice President wins, she is likely to maintai n the open door policies. But if Trump wins, he is liely to shut the border and start widespread deportstions of those living in the US illegally.
He had said during a rally that, “We will carry out the largest deportation of criminals i american history.”
Although many asylum seekers are fleeing oppressive governments and dangerous living conditions, they are heading for a country where moast voters are saying they wany more strict policies to keep out the flow of migrants over the southren border.
Trump has made migration, illegal migration and the “crimes committed” by these individuals a centrepiece of his campaign ever si nce he first ran for president in 2016. He is promising to restore order if he gets another term.
Meanwhile, the CBP has reported te lowest numbers of border crossers since 2020.
