Human Rights Watch has alleged that the warring parties in Sudan are engaging in widespread gender-based violence in the capital, Khartoum.
Aljazeera reports that both the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces soldiers have regularly carried out rape and, among other crimes, since the start of the civil war in April 2023.
The report was based on interviews with service providers who directly interacted with hundreds of survivors of sexual violence in Khartoum and other cities.
Most of the cases were attributed to the RSF forces. Numerous crimes were also attributed to the army. Many survivors said they were raped
by multiple perpetrators, who also seized women and girls from their homes, streets and workplaces. The victims were then detained or confined in homes and other facilities the forces occupied in the cities.
The RSF also subjected women and girls to forced marriage, according to the rights group.
